The recently opened Jimmy Grants restaurant within the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne has a rustic and welcoming charm specifically designed for a casual dining experience.  The floor throughout the eatery is comprised of 240x71x8mm brick slips from German manufacturer Stroher.

Whilst brick slips are traditionally utilised for building facades or wall interiors, as a floor tile Stroher's Keravette range provides not only an aesthetic appeal, but also the durability and safety needed in a high-traffic area, via an R11 anti-slip rating.

Using colour "318 Palace", the brick slips were laid in a brickbond pattern, so the colour variations created during the high firing process would create distinctive floor tonings throughout the restaurant.  In addition to the main dining areas, the same brick slip was also used on the walls within the kitchen area to add vibrancy as well as a hard wearing finish.

Jimmy Grants is a slick, modern interpretation of an old-school souvlaki shop, transforming the late-night drunken kebab into high-quality, tasty fast food.  The story behind Jimmy Grant restaurants is a blend of casual dining and multi-culturalism.  Its name is taken from the nickname given to the immigrants arriving in Australia after WWII from Greece, Italy and the Middle East, all bearing unfamiliar and unpronounceable names.  So they were all just called "Jimmy Grants".
