Shepparton Law Courts

Serving its purpose as the regional headquarters for the Hume/Goulburn region, the Shepparton Law Courts were opened in March 2019.

Designed by Architectus, GHD Woodhead and Guymer Bailey the purpose designed building responds to Court Services Victoria Strategic Asset Plan and provides a benchmark for the delivery of modern multi-jurisdictional courts in Victoria.  In particular, the facility provides court and tribunal facilities which are modern, technology enabled, safe, secure, sustainable and capable of being expanded.

Built to a budget of $73 million, the five storey 7,900m2 building relates to the original 1930’s Shepparton Courthouse via a landscaped plaza.  The facility itself comprises six main courtrooms, interview rooms, break out spaces and separate facilities for juries, enforcement officers and other parties to the law enforcement process.

Ceramic Solutions supplied and installed tiles and stone to the plaza, roof terraces, judge’s and public amenities, lift lobbies and the stunning main foyer.  The main foyer is inspired by the image of an ancient river red gum, and this is reflected in both the design of the ceiling and the floor. In the case of the floor, the intricate pattern was made possible through the extensive use of templates and water jet cutting.

Designers chose Agrob Bucthal Valley Sand-beige and Trias Calcite White and Zinc Grey for use on floors and walls.   Courtyards and terraces were paved in bluestone.  Ceramic Solutions adopted a non-typical sheet membrane, no fines screed and open jointed installation solution for the roof terrace.  Lift lobby faces on all levels were tiled in Stroeher Keravette Patrician Red brickslips providing a brick appearance in keeping with the original 1930’s courthouse.

This stunning public facility is designed and constructed to service the people of Victoria for many decades to come.
